So I just got my copy of Dragon Quest IX in the post, and let me tell you I'm excited. Being a generous person I want all of y'all to share in my enthusiasm and excitement for Dragon Quest IX. So did anyone else pick this up? So far I'm only a few minutes in have made a character named Yu, I'm probably going to take him in the battlemage direction. Anyway look forward to everyone elses' experiences!

Ok so, thus far no one seems particularly interested in this thread. It's the intention of this post to make people interested while also highlighting some of the Dragon Quest IX's gameplay. Read on for a handy Q & A.

Q. What is Dragon Quest?
A. Dragon Quest is a long running series of Japanese RPGs. It has enjoyed immense popularity in Japan, unfortunately Dragon Quest has remained fairly unpopular in the West.

Q, That's great... Why should I care about Dragon Quest IX?
A. Simply put, Dragon Quest IX takes many of the aspects seen in previous Dragon Quest games and fuses them with mechanics from the WRPG and MMORPG genre. Throughout the game players are free to wander an overworld, take on quests for townspeople and co-operate with their friends in complex randomly generated multiplayer dungeons. Dragon Quest IX also features a 40+ hour story, and seamlessly integrates the side and main quest. This allows the player to have full control over the pace at which they finish the main story.

Q. I heard this is an action RPG, but screenshots say otherwise. What gives?
A. when the game was first going into production it was planned as an action RPG it was hoped that this direction would help with he loot based, multiplayer questing focus of the game. Mid-way into development however the game was changed to a more traditional turn based system, similar to Dragon Quests of old. Don't worry though, the battle system in Dragon Quest IX is top notch. It requires both skill and your attention to win fights. This coupled with he deep skill and job systems means that Dragon Quest IX promises myriad approaches to any given fight.

So I probably wasn't the best for keeping this thread alive. Anyhow. I finished the game last week, took me 80 or so hours. DQIX is a really fantastic game; the battles are fun and due to the buffing/de-buffing dynamics as well as the differing skill-sets of the classes keep things fresh from encounter to encounter.

Did anyone else pick up the game?

Anyone at PAX swapping grottos and having fun?
